January Chic

For the past 4 weeks, my Mother has been in hospital, but somehow I have managed to continue working. The impact mentally and visually my wardrobe provided has never been more evident, needed or appreciated.

Perhaps the most important reason we wish to dress properly for every occasion is that our clothing affects and reflects our mood. But if your life falls apart it’s a different story.

My whole well-being was thrown overboard, schedules, location ..who, what I was wearing..Or should have been wearing…thankfully emails were sent & I tried to get through them.

Luckily over the years, I have built a wardrobe of easy, stylish basics. Consciously or subconsciously I always try to dress for happiness, always staying positive …to be my best self.

Knowing your strengths & trying positively to make sure personal standards are maintained is in its way a great discipline to keep. The hair ..nails..etc ….A morning photographing in a hotel followed by a 6-hour stint in the hospital. I have learnt to carry my chargers everywhere.

The last four weeks have brought to focus the importance of clothes. They can be expressive & entertaining. Besides protecting you from the elements, the right clothes can make you feel at ease, more yourself, assured, confident, and even happy.

Colourful clothing is the perfect pick me up, just the tonic for a bleak Sunday. This Primark coat I wore last Winter and the Miu-Miu glasses hide tired eyes.

I posted this image to be bombarded by comments about …the hair. The simple explanation I downloaded the boxset “And just like that” at the hospital & inspired by Miss Bradshaw stepped away from the ponytail. Seeking comfort & inspiration I was able to catch up with characters that distracted me from my heartache.

Warm & cosy, faux fur fashion with fluffy shearings. Unable to raise a smile in zero temperatures, thankfully my Zara vintage cape & hat always add a pinch of sophistication. Can I go through January without my Uggs …thats’s a no then.

To those of you who have an elderly parent …it always falls on the daughter… it’s tough, it’s frightening and it’s inevitable. Many hours …lonely, fatigued & lost in personal memories. Life goes on … it has to … it needs to. I found some comfort in my wardrobe, a strength through my styling & a need to go forward from brands who waited.
