November Chic

My first experience of Black Friday was in New York, where I purchased a Michael Kors item at Macy’s during the early bird sale at 4:30 a.m. England only watched. How it’s all changed…

You cannot ignore the fact that Christmas has arrived early in London. With five weeks to go, retailers are pulling out all the stops for our money. Black Friday began in October.

I'm at an age where I don't have children, so I no longer have the hassle of gift buying. I usually choose gift-wrapped beauty products for my dear friends. I can't quite explain it, but I often add bottles of champagne or festive chocolates to gift bags, and then I'm finished. Most of my shopping is done at festive markets.

Shopping at Fortnum & Mason is like stepping into a Christmas wonderland, igniting my festive spirit every year. Their holiday department opens in September, and though it's indulgent, I can't resist treating myself to a new keepsake as part of my tradition. The food hall is an extraordinary experience that should not be missed. I love to visit early on a weekday morning, when the hustle and bustle of the crowds is still a distant hum. In that serene moment, the air is infused with a delightful, decadent aroma that is the very essence of British charm.

A visit to Harrods during the holiday season is an enchanting experience you simply cannot miss. The store exudes a lush extravagance and an air of indulgence, boasting exquisite Christmas cards that can reach as much as £300, adorned with jewels or featuring charming cashmere-knitted reindeer. Spending a delightful morning here is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the festive opulence that so many cherish. Located just a short stroll away from me and directly across from the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), which embodies the whimsical spirit of Christmas, especially with its captivating jewellery offerings in the gift shop.

I can't help but get caught up in the chaos at my local coffee shop and pub, which is draped in decorative tinsel. Meanwhile, my vegetarian menu has been replaced with Brie, mushrooms, and cranberries—oh dear! In November, the UK government announced a budget that increased taxes and tightened finances. As a result, it’s noticeable that many restaurants and pubs are now empty.

It’s a delightful form of self-indulgence, evoking cherished memories of shopping excursions with parents or grandparents who are no longer with us. The enchanting twinkle of the local lights transforms even the dreariest London nights into a mesmerising spectacle, filling the air with a sense of awe and joy.

I’ve adorned my home with exquisite flowers and elegant white branches to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving. While the season of gratitude approaches, I can’t help but dread the looming Black Friday—an onslaught of mindless impulse buys. Instead, I plan to escape it all and immerse myself in the charm of Portobello.

I absolutely adore transforming my fireplace into a cosy sanctuary adorned with exquisite, fragrant, and festive candles in a delightful array of colours. There’s nothing quite like the enchanting embrace of a cold evening, as I settle in with a warming drink and a captivating book, relishing every tranquil moment.

November gracefully sets the stage for the delightful overindulgence that December inevitably brings. The love we share, the memories we create, and the joy we experience weave together to create a truly enchanting atmosphere. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’ve developed a newfound appreciation for the Christmas programming on the Food Network. Even though I don’t cook, I find joy in exploring the diverse traditions that different countries celebrate during this magical season.

I lost my beloved Cody earlier this year so when Ralph Lauren asked if I would like to name a star on their tree I did not hesitate. I purchased 2.

The star shines on the huge tree in Chelsea the other at home. The star shines in the Winter sun with me a reminder of his life.

There are moments when you hold someone dear in your arms, and it's then that you truly understand: no amount of money or material gifts can ever replace the warmth of friendship or the ache of loss. Holding on to cherished Christmas memories from years gone by is the most beautiful reminder of the love that fills this season.
