Transparent Chic

See-through, cut-away fashion is trending for Summer 2023. How you wear it in your 50s can be a challenge. What’s the alternative?

Simply impossible for most women of any age. It’s not for the faint-hearted…unless you are a happy exhibitionist or have the confidence to show what you’ve got…or frankly go for it.

The above dresses are all from Zara, I simply adore them and 35 years ago strutting along Portobello market I probably wore something similar with flip-flops and a fancy basket.

London fashion influencer and Elle contributor Camille Charriere wore a vintage transparent Wedding dress, she then co-designed with Mango the best-selling black dress above. Not always attractive how in our midlife years can we still embrace this trend without looking trashy?

Midlife sheer-style.

Offering just a glimpse of whats underneath is an easy option, sheer fabrics, chiffon or lace are favourites.

The ever-chic American fashion influencer Olivia Palermo offers a polished elegance ..stylish & modern with just a hint of flesh. Note the short petticoat which covers the thighs, it leaves the sheerness and interest while lengthening. the leg

Helen Mirren is a huge inspiration for women who love to embrace current trends. Look at the sheer netting studded with diamonds we are seeing arm confidence the focus is sexy, strong and effortless. The red dress offers lace with a glimpse of skin. Notice the sleeve lengths nothing is overlooked.

Jane Fonda wears a signature bold dress with the careful use of sheer cutouts. Revealing and drawing attention to her slim waist. If the flesh was exposed it would look awful, the nude sheer fabric is shiny, and glossy without cheapening the overall look.

There are no words ..making the front pages for the wrong reasons.

What works for me.

This stunning skirt actually has 3 layers, all in different lengths. The exquisite embroidery on the chiffon affords that all-important hint of skin.

Note the plain unfussy pink accessories ..the skirt is the outfit

So underrated Crochet is having a moment… wear it with a camisole or a slip dress. Shopping in Portobello above I purchased this in a thrift store for pounds. Why did I buy it …I loved the shape of the sleeves. Just enough coverage to reveal hints of skin perfect with a tan or beach cover-up.

Why not opt for lace or broderie anglaise, a fabric that incorporates cutwork, embroidery & needle lace? Romantic, pretty and feminine. Effortless to wear, cool in Summer heat and always on trend.

Phase 8- Lipsy- Top shop

Summer is rapidly approaching these affordable skirts are the perfect addition… just add sunshine.

See you in June.
