Early sunshine invites Springs's newest arrivals to nest among our transitional wardrobe. Spotting early trends & snapping up new arrivals begins in February. But it really began over 70 years ago.
IT bags come and go but the classic Jackie bag remains as eternally stylish & stunning as the lady herself. In 1964 after visiting Gucci the former First Lady purchased 6 of the bags. Pictured so many times with the bag Gucci renamed it.
The bag was initially designed in the 1950s by Gucci and called the Fifties Constance. Over the years it has been reinvented in various colours and fabric finishes. Above Jackie carries a natural canvas.
Star style 1960s
The actor Peter Sellers was such a fan he authorised his image to be used & photographers snapped him countless times with different versions. Samuel Beckett used his for weekend shopping.

In a testament to its timeless design, the bag has altered only lightly. Tom Ford redesigned the clasp in 1999 & replaced the piston lock with a geometric buckle.
Men and Gucci
Proving its versatility Gucci started to photograph men wearing the iconic bag on their website and now on billboards
In 2020 Alessandro Michele decided to revive the bag again this time in various sizes debuting a mini version. The men’s Fall show in Milan showed male models posing with the bag with a gold piston lock.
Fast forward to 2023 & the emblematic bag is once again trending with fashionistas such as Harry Styles. Also carrying the bamboo 1947 mini top.

Pulling into Venice the actress Kate Blanchett coordinates her blue navy jumpsuit with the black mini. Whoever suggested this combination of colours should not be mixed look again.
From her Tank watch, oversized glasses or Valentino dresses the icon is still today referenced by all major fashion houses. But it is her association with Gucci that Spring 2023 invites us to reminisce & admire true elegance.
