Personal chic.

There are times when visiting the high street becomes a gut-wrenching experience, you can no longer just walk in and everything fits or matches what’s already in your overflowing closets. Stomach showing, backs missing and sandals designed to enhance your bunions.

By developing your own personal style you may not be able to wear everything ..and seriously who would want to ..but you will understand what does work, makes you feel good, confident and happy.

Firstly are you shopping in the right shop

The choice of shops and internet sites can be overwhelming for some. Unfortunately the older and more fabulous we become the lack of options deteriorates. Remember it’s your money if the shop has nothing to offer don’t settle or make do move on. Chances are you won't wear it.

Seek inspiration.

You can get ideas and inspiration everywhere. Look in magazines or visit websites to have a look at what women your age are styling. I reference Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Doris Day but I watch Camille Charriere. RHW and Grece Ghanem among others …why because they have a look I aspire to…a chicness that’s obtainable.

Considering the fashion industry's long-standing obsession with youth, and lack of representation in media promotions, magazines and the catwalk it’s hardly surprising many of us turn to apps like Instagram for guidance. Grece Ghanem above is my personal favourite.

Self-help.

I rarely go a day without somebody asking me where I purchased an item or commenting on a purchase. Others simply state I love your look but I couldn’t wear it. OR I wish I could just throw that together. Confidence comes from within with a dash of daring on top. Take the below colourful shirt from Zara most would run from it, it’s loud, bold, and trending. Was it designed for 57-year-old women probably not. I havent taken it off.

Self-esteme.

This look is bold but essentially it’s me in a nutshell. I love vintage jewellery, vintage bags and classic colours. The touch of modern I selected from new season H&M are the shoes.

Embrace trends.

New season and new collections are for everybody or are they? You love the colours you adore the style on the hanger and the posters they look just fabulous. Will they work on your body.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to reinvent your look. It costs nothing to experiment. Visit the high street and check the refund policy. Select items you would love to wear but you wouldn’t buy. Super wide trousers, skinny fit jeans, vibrant colour combinations. Not your staple items you fall back on. Take your time and take a risk.

take them home do not try instore.

Look at these 8 outfits. The top 4 look interesting, exciting, and vibrant what message do you looks say about you.

I prefer to try it on at home. Sometimes I hang them overnight so I can appreciate them. I do my hair and make-up and layout on the bed options I already own. What options do I own that compliment, heel height, hem length..belts ..bags?

You cannot do this in a fitting room. Take photographs in a good light prop up your phone make a video walk sit down. Does this work for you …are you excited, chances are you will love it or hate it.

A stylish woman will always exclude confidence and self-belief. Taking the time to showcase your own unique personnel chic is important. No words are required you are dressed for who you are or aspire to be. It’s priceless ..it opens doors ..the best tables…it helps you get out of bed.
